At 1st-Direct you will find a wide range of swimming pool chemicals that will ensure your pool water remains sparkling clean and clear throughout the year. If you are unfamiliar with adding pool chemicals please see our pool chemicals guide which will tell you what chemicals you need to add to your pool. On all our chemicals there will be clear dosage instructions to follow but if you have any questions please contact us.
We have pool chlorine/bromine to sanitise your pool water and kill bacteria/algae in your pool. To control the pH level in your pool we have a range of water balancers to ensure your pool chemistry is always at the correct level to make the chlorine work effectively and to safe guard against any damage to your pool pump/heating units. To keep algae from forming in your pool we have a range of different pool algaecides, and if you are looking for speciality chemicals such as tile & liner cleaner we have these too.
It is important to keep an eye on your water chemistry and chlorine levels throughout the swimming season to ensure the water is safe and clean for swimmers. We have a number of pool test kits which will give you an accurate reading of your chlorine and pH levels and you can add the appropriate chemicals to ensure your pool is always at the optimal levels. The pool chlorine level needs to be at 1-2 parts per million for indoor pools and 3 parts per million for outdoor pools. Our pool chlorine comes in both granular and tablet form. To add granular chlorine to your pool add them to a bucket of pool water and gently stir until dissolved, then evenly disperse the water over the pool. Chlorine tabs can be added to the skimmer basket and these will slowly dissolve.
To keep your pool from going green during the summer add long life algaecide to your pool, algae growth increases in sunlight so you may need to top your pool with algaecide throughout the swimming season.
Keeping the pH level is essential to ensure the pool chlorine works effectively and to prevent any internal metal workings in pumps/heating units corroding or scale forming. The pH level should be kept between 7.2 – 7.6 when using chlorine and this needs to be checked on a regularly basis. If the pH is higher than 7.6 add ph minus (dry acid), otherwise if it’s lower than 7.2 then add ph plus (alkali). Please read the dosage instructions to ensure you add the correct amount of chemicals and retest to ensure the pH level has changed.
It is important to never mix pool chemicals and keep them stored in their original and sealed containers in a cool dark place out of reach from children.
