Salt Water Applications
With the increased popularity and variety of Saltwater Chlorine Generator systems, including the Jandy AquaPure product, the following clarification is to ensure the proper heater for a saltwater pool application.As with any heater installation, it is important to maintain proper water chemistry, water flow rates and temperature rise in order to prevent damage to the heat exchanger by erosive or corrosive water.All Installation & Operations manuals for Jandy pool heaters state that standard heaters should not be used to heat salt water pools, meaning sea-water with salt concentration ranging from 25,000 to 35,000ppm. Jandy does offer special salt construction for these types of installations.In general, pools using Saltwater Chlorination systems operate with significantly lower salt concentrations.
Pools with the following characteristics are within normal water conditions and require no special product modifications and standard published product warranties apply.
- Salt Content 3000 to 4000 ppm maximum
- Water Flow Rate 8-10 ft/second or 60-80 US gpm
- Temperature Rise must be within the published norms for the heater model installed.
- Jandy Lite heaters are supplied with fully glass-lined headers and ASME grade, copper finned-tube heat exchangers for maximum efficiency.
