We have several options with the indoor / foam / commercial covers. All the covers are built for different purposes. The most common reason for a foam cover is for Indoor pools, where the environment has high ambient air temperatures and the covers are subjected to a harsher environment. The cover has been designed in this way to deal with minimising condensation, reducing evaporation, retaining the heat in the pool, reducing chemical consumption. It is known that some people use standard solar covers, but you must realise that you will not benefit from these points and will not save you money in the long run! The solar covers are manufactured to be outside for solar gain and heat retention - they will not perform as well and will certainly not last as long.
The Supercover is considered to be the best heat retention cover available in today's market. Originally designed for commercial or school swimming pools, but most popular now it is used for private domestic indoor pools. The fabric is made from closed cell PE foam, which is laminated and sealed between a strong woven polyethylene top sheet and a clear protective skin. The material is very dense and will therefore keeps light penetration to a minimum and helps to reduce algae growth. Reasons for a Foam Cover:
5mm Foam Indoor Cover - Tough Polyolefine woven top and bottom sheet for heat retention and strength, shaped and hemmed to your specification (extra), Weighs 0.42kg per m.sq, 29degC maximum temperature, 3 year pro rata guarantee. The 5mm is ideal for domestic pools, commercial environments where the water temperature is up to 29degC. Performs better than the 6mm and is lighter for ease of removing via roller.
8mm Foam Pool Cover - Polyolefine woven fabric top laminate with UV stabilised coating, embossed underside, shaped and hemmed to your specification (extra), Weighs 0.53kg per m.sq, 29degC maximum temperature with a 4 year pro rata guarantee or 39degC for Hydrotherapy Pools with a 1 year warranty. Very popular in the commercial and hydrotherapy market given the extra thickness as the cost saving on running costs is far greater.
12mm Foam Pool Cover - Laminated top and bottom with embossed clear protective layer due to being able to cope with higher temperatures so ideal for spas and hydrotherapy pools - max running temp of 39degC, limited to a 1 year warranty. These covers can not be hemmed and are not easy to roll therefore can not be fitted on a roller, therefore only suitable for smaller pools. Weight is 0.49kg per sq m.
Should the cover be hemmed? This is an extra strip of reinforced material added to the perimeter of the pool to prevent waterlogging which occurs in foam covers, also prevents tearing therefore extending the life expectancy of the cover, also creates a more aesthetically pleasing cover.
