CPV Suncell Solar Heating Panels
An environmentally friendly and cost free method of heating for in-ground or above ground swimming pools |
|
Required Panel Area
When the swimming pool is situated in an area that is normally a sheltered location from the elements the panel area should be equal to 50% of the pool surface area. Alternatively if the swimming pool is situated in an area that is particularly exposed to the elements the panel area should be equal to 80% of the pool surface area. |
|
Mounting the Panels
The panels should be mounted in a completely unshaded location facing South. Orientations up to 20º East of South and 40º West of South are acceptable. The panels should be inclined at an angle to the horizontal of between 15º - 45º. The minimum slope is 15º to ensure that the panels can be drained. The panels should be fixed securely, at ground level, on a bank, on a suitable roof or on a purpose designed structure. For installation on level ground or a flat roof a range of prefabricated support frames in kit form are available. |
|
Flow through the Panels
The solar panels are usually connected into the existing pool filtration circuit so that the filtered pool water is passed through them to absorb heat. Swimming Pool Solar Panels work on the basis of a flow rate with a low temperature rise. Therefore it is important to maintain an adequete flow rate through the panels. The minimum flow rate is 2gpm(0.15l/s) per panel. The preferred flow rate is 2-4gpm(0.15 - 0.3l/s). No more then 8 panels should be mounted in one bank. If more then one bank of panels is installed it is important to ensure that an equal flow rate passes through each bank. This best achieved by using a 'reverse return' pipework arrangement or by installing regulating valves to each bank. The banks should be placed apart so that overshadowing does not occur. |
