Swimming Pool Safety

All swimming pools need to be kept in a safe condition so that they do not present a hazard to people or animals. Taking a few basic precautions can ensure that injuries do not occur. Here are some basic safety tips that should be considered:

1. The access ladder for above ground pools should be safe and secure and located in an easily accessible location
2. Those using an above ground swimming pool should not be allowed to sit on the railing or rim of the pool
3. When children are using the pool (above ground or in ground) they should be supervised by a responsible adult at all times
4. Pool safety fencing or a pool enclosure might be used to restrict access
5. A swimming pool safety cover can help prevent animals and children from falling in
6. There should be no running or horseplay around the swimming pool
7. All inlets, vacuum points and drains should be verified as clear of debris and secure
8. All electrical equipment, pumps and filters, should be routinely inspected and verified as safe
9. Swimming pool water treatment chemicals should be stowed securely out of the reach of children
10. Swimming pool water should be clean and verified as safe.
